Romance Travel

Niagara Falls is commonly known as the Honeymoon Capital of the World, but that sense of romance stretches much farther than Niagara Falls. Several different areas of the Niagara region are perfect for a getaway with that special someone. From large, towering hotels with rooms that overlook the Falls from a Jacuzzi tub, or quaint historic inns right in the heart of Niagara on the Lake, the Niagara Region is sure to have something to suit all romantic tastes. When booking it is best to call or check the websites directly, as prices for room and packages are constantly changing.

Niagara on the Lake

The Riverbend Inn (www.riverbendinn.ca), located on the outskirts of Niagara on the Lake is a picturesque estate that appears to be right out of the pages of Gone with the Wind. Guest enjoy views of sprawling vineyards or the meandering Niagara Parkway from every room. This inn has 21 different rooms, five of which have private balconies. The Riverbend Inn also has their own dining room, where gourmet meals are served, usually paired with a local wine. Several packages are available throughout the summer and winter; details are available on the website.

Prince of Wales Hotel (http://www.vintage-hotels.com/niagara-on-the-lake/hotels/prince-of-wales.php) has become an icon in Niagara on the Lake, impressing people with its stately elegance. This hotel was named one of the top 500 in the world by Travel and Leisure Magazine in 2008, and it definitely lives up to that assertion. Complete with an afternoon tea, a spa, and a dining room, this is the place to go if you want to be pampered.

Harbour House (www.harbourhouse.ca) is located right beside the lake in Niagara on the Lake, and is a gorgeous, modern hotel. All the rooms come equipped with feather topped, king size beds, which you may find yourself never wanting to leave. All rooms have gas fireplaces, many have “Romeo and Juliet” balconies, and a few have double whirlpools, which are great to relax in after a day of sightseeing in town. Several romantic packages are available, including one named “Just Say Yes!”. This package is supposedly perfect if you are planning to propose: all you need to bring is the ring.

Charles Inn (www.charlesinn.ca) is the perfect place to stay if you would like a bit of history with your romance. Built in 1832, this Georgian Style Inn will take you back in time, when life was just a little bit simpler. You will likely get lost at least once trying to find your room, but don’t worry, upon check in, the staff provides you with a map of the inn, so you can make your way up and down the narrow staircases, and back and forth through the winding halls.  This inn has twelve different guest rooms; all decorated slightly differently, all different sizes.

Olde Angel Inn (http://www.angel-inn.com/), is officially the oldest inn in Niagara on the Lake, and they claim to be the most authentic. Attached to this inn is a bustling pub,  a dining room, 5 guest rooms and two cottages. The Angel Inn even has a resident ghost-Captain Swazye, but don’t worry, he is said to be friendly (as long as the British flag remains flying over the pub door).  The owners will happily entertain you with ghostly tales, as you sit for a pint in the pub. This is a great place to stay if you want some romantic alone time, but also want somewhere to go in the evenings to meet the locals and have some fun.

The Pillar and Post (http://www.vintage-hotels.com/niagara-on-the-lake/hotels/pillar-and-post.php), yet another top rated hotel, is a great place to stay if you are looking to be pampered. Built in 1860, this building was originally used as a canning factory. It was lovingly restored, and has since become one of the most popular places to stay in town. The Pillar and Post also boasts one of the top rated spas in Ontario, as well as a bar and restaurant.

Niagara Falls

Sheraton On the Falls (www.sheratononthefalls.com), a large, towering hotel complex, has one of the best views of the Falls in the entire region. You can take advantage of their romantic getaway package, and if you want to splurge, you can upgrade to one of the Fallsview King Jacuzzi rooms, where you can see the beauty of the falls while relaxing in your Jacuzzi. And, for a little bit of fun, spend some time in the 125, 000 indoor water park where couples can challenge each other on the extreme racing slides.

Marriott Fallsview Hotel and Spa (www.niagarafallsmarriott.com) is the closest hotel you will find to Niagara Falls, as it is situated just 100 yards away. This is also the closest you will get to the Niagara Fallsview Casino, which is right next door. Their romance package “Relax, Refresh, Revive”, includes accommodations, several meals, wine, chocolate strawberries, roses, and a spa treatment.

Hilton Niagara Falls (www.niagarafallshilton.com) is also in a great location right next to the Falls. The Watermark Restaurant, which is located on the top floor of the hotel, is a great place to go at the end of the day to just relax and enjoy the view. One and two night romance packages are available, and include accommodations, some meals, and a complimentary shuttle to the most popular attractions in the area.

Jordan Village

Inn on the Twenty (www.innonthetwenty.com) is located in the picturesque Jordan village, just twenty minutes from both Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake, and is in the heart of the Niagara wine region.  Several “couple renewal” packages are available.
